

David Andrew is a Chartered Town Planner. He retired from Devon County Council in January 2006, as Assistant Director (Development Countryside and Heritage). In this post, he had wide ranging responsibilities covering the natural and historic environment, public rights of way, countryside recreation and development planning and for the management of the staff and budgets dedicated to these.
David was instrumental in the expansion of Devon County Council's role from policy making into active participation in countryside management and visitor services including the Heritage Coasts, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Countryside Services and the development of recreational projects such as the Tarka Trail.
David has considerable experience of World Heritage Site issues and was the County Council's lead officer in pursuing the inscription of the Dorset and East Devon Coast (Jurassic Coast) WHS and the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape WHS. He was Chairman of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Steering Group from 1999-2006. He is a founding Trustee of the Jurassic Coast Trust.
